Tales from Ichirouganaim
I was on my way to the national library in Bridgetown to do research on another article. Hungry, I decided to have a bite in the local food court. As I walked in there was the familiar smell of curry. I had not had roti since I left Trinidad and " ah was feeling for a curry". So I stopped by this small roti shop in the corner of the food court and ordered my usual dhalpouri with chicken and alloo. Well, the lady asked if I wanted the one with the ground peas in it. Now some readers may not realise what transpired but don't worry about that.
She came out with the dhalpouri and filled it with only the chicken and potatoes (alloo). No bhagee, pumpkin or channa but that was my fault. I assumed and fell into a familiar role. Snapped back to the "reality?" that I was in my homogenous society of Barbados, I pondered as to the strange accent of the lady and why ocroe was and option for a roti. It was in my cogitation of this variance in familiar cuisine, that a strong Bajan accent sounded behind me.
"You all have doubles?"
