The Next 100
The sun's rays peaked over the horizon of a now calm ocean. The eight had managed to arrange the five women atop the still capsized dugout, while the three men remained in the water guiding the still capsized dugout. As long as their course kept the now risen sun on Wadili's right hand, they knew that they were going in the correct direction. From their vantage point, the women saw none of the other nine dugouts. No other villagers in the water, just an expanse of blue.
It seemed that the Jaguar Terror had reached them after all. It could not be escaped. With a sorrowful face Hiyaro looked at Wadili in the water. She could see the determination in his face as he began to tire. They were all beginning to tire and beginning to wonder if they were lost to there ancestors; cut off, doomed to wander this vast blue ocean as wraiths.
Wadili saw the expression on Hiyaro's face change from one of sorrow to one of intense fear. He was not sure as to what was happening. Maybe Hiyaro had seen another of her visions of the future. Perhaps she was just frightened by the situation. Something in the water bumped him. Then it bumped him again. Now all the women on had the same expression of dread as they pointed to the large dark shape under the water.
" O Great Spirit help us! " Hiyaro exclaimed as the ominous shape broke the water's surface.
